Miwako Kubota

Former Senior Artist

The Australian Ballet

Miwako was born in Japan and began her ballet training with Fumika Morishima in Okinawa at the age of 7.
Before joining The Australian Ballet School at the age of 16 she trained with Kimie Sasamoto and Iwao Nagae in Tokyo. In 1997 she was awarded the Idemitsu Scholarship at the sixth Asia Pacific Competition.
After graduating from the Australian Ballet School in 1998 Miwako joined the Australian Ballet Company in 1999 progressing through the ranks to the role of Senior Artist in 2010 and retired at that rank at the end of 2016. Miwako toured with The Australian Ballet Company throughout Australia and also overseas to Japan, New Zealand, China, London, Manchester, Cardiff, Paris, San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York.
She has danced the Principal role in many of the Australian Ballet Company’s full length productions.
